Parts List

January 31, 2012:

met with Dr. D today. we are to get him the final list of parts we need. we were talking about specification for the R/C Car in order to make this project repeatable.  it really comes down to 3 specs (see bellow). we were talking about different size vehicles.  i have noticed in researching different R/C Models that there are different types of D/C motors that are equipped to the  R/C Cars.  they are either brushed or brushless. Our test car has a brushed motor. brushed motors have 2 wires; a positive (+) and a ground (-) wire only. to control the direction clockwise or counter clockwise, a h-bridge can switch the polarity on the motor. however, with the more expensive R/C Cars they come with a brushless motor.  a brushless motor has 3 wires that need to be connected to a ESC-Electronic stability control. then can be controlled.

NOTE: Test Car, removed cover over DC motor and got the part number: Dynamite ECX1071, when to manufactures website and determined it was Brushed.

3 specification for the R/C Car:

1. RTR: Ready to Run
2. DC motor
3. Steering Servo

Question/Idea:

these RC Cars come with a speed controller AKA ESC with both brushed or brushless motors. I want to run a specific test on the TEST R/C car. there is a cable coming out of the Speed controller that is originally connected to the receiver waiting on instructions from the remote controller.  instead of hooking it into the receiver i want to hook it into the Arduino and see if I can write a little program to control the speed and direction forward and reverse. if this test work good on a brushed motor it will work the same on a brushless because they need a ESC to run. this would eliminate the need for a H bridge with the brushed motor and also take care of the brushless motors.

Parts list still need. Picking the R/C Car is still a question size, how big of a vehicle do we want. 1/10, 1/8, 1/5.
A good website that has a large verity of R/C Cars and documents components of its vehicles is

  1. OK what we need is a definitive list, for example:

    VEHICLE
-- R/C car (electronic) with brushless motor
    -- ESC controller

    OR,
-- R/C car (electronic) with brushed motor
    -- H-bridge

    etc

PS: I am ordering the parts,

  2. the question i proposed in last nights blog January 31, 2012 using the test car. we may be able to get around using a h-bridge. I have made the connector for the ESC to Arduino. i will document it tonight. but i want to write out a specific document saying what im testing, why im testing it, how it benifits what the perpose of it is. if everything passes like my hypothis will state. we can elimate the h-bridge and just use the cars ESC. now, I know the TEST Car has a ESC and it sends off an annoying beep code if the transmitter is not on and in site.
